“What an experience as we rode alongside various rivers, across bridges and past many small houses where we we were constantly greeted with ‘Hello’ from the occupants as I handed out small Koala souvenirs to the many small children along the way. Back to Uncle 7’s where we helped prepare the evening meal, lots of fun, and many cold beers at ridiculously cheap prices.
Took off next day at 5am (in the dark) on a beautiful morning in a long tail boat for Phong Dien floating market and breakfast overlooking the river markets. A short walk took us to Lam The Cuong’s Cocoa Factory where we watched as he made the most delicious dark chocolate he exports to other countries. His family has owned this plantation for 200 years and as veterans we had a long discussion about our experiences back in the 1960’s.
Our motorbikes were delivered here while we savoured the chocolate, before taking off on a ride through many surrounding villages, farms and riverside houses. Enjoyed Vietnamese coffee on the site of a huge Ficus tree before heading off to a duck restaurant for lunch. Leaving there we rode into the large regional town of Can Tho where our accommodation was in a new 5 star hotel.” Reviewed by Geoff
